We made the incredible road trip from Washington to Alaska last month. It took 7 days of traveling to get all the way home, camping along the way. We drove for hours on stretches of road that seemed to go on forever into the northern wilderness. It was stunning. Imagine whole days of this scenery. Cleansing to my soul, truly.
This is a stone sheep near Muncho Lake, British Columbia. Somehow my camera turned out a glowing white shot. He was completely indifferent to us looking at him only feet away. We also saw black bears, many many moose, porcupines, foxes, and had a couple of "what was that?" moments where the animal was out of shot before we could decipher who or what it was. If you want to see animals on the Alaska highway, we recommend driving in the early dawn, and to be very alert. Seeing big moose in the road had the same effect as coffee, at least temporarily. Of course, this increased our chances of hitting something; fortunately the only casualties of our trip were thousands of mosquitoes on our front end.
